Description
This position will be located at Suson Farm and will typically work 8am-4:30pm, approximately 30 hours a week.
The starting salary is $15.19 per hour and there are no benefits provided. However, when available, vacancies for permanent jobs are posted and experience, training, and departmental work record are taken into consideration for promotion to these positions.
Examples of Duties
* Oversees and participates in the care of animals housed in a farm setting.
* Maintains animal records and files including animal registrations, feed and supply needs, animal inventory, veterinarian visits, treatments, scheduling, and feed charts.
* Maintains barn and pasture structures such as gates and fences, enclosures and equipment to ensure appearance and safety for the animals and the visiting public.
* Feeds and waters animals to maintain health and appearance; cleans stalls to keep barns free from pests and infections.
* Trains animals by halter breaking foals and calves for special events and allow for easier handling.
* Transports and handles animals and equipment for demonstrations.
* Provides basic care for sick or injured animals.
* Estimates dates for animal breeding and deliveries; assists with birthing and weighing newborns.
* Assists the veterinarian during routine visits; vaccinates animals for disease prevention; assists farrier with horse hoof maintenance.
* Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must be 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or GED and a possess valid driver's license.

SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available. The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above.
Responses provided to the interview questions listed under the Supplemental Question heading of this posting will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. Once questions are scored, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.
The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.
All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County. Additionally, new employees will have 30 calendar days, after their first day of employment, to attest to their COVID-19 vaccination status. Instructions on how to submit this attestation will be provided once employment has begun. County employees are not required to be fully vaccinated, but those who are not fully vaccinated must submit to weekly COVID-19 testing until they are fully vaccinated or St. Louis County geographically reaches a 70% vaccination rate and a moderate transmission level of COVID-19 as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
