Job Summary The Pediatric Medical Assistant position fills many essential roles for the clinic to function effectively. Responsibilities include direct patient care, effective communication between coworkers, coordination between patients and resources, and more.
Key Responsibilities - Provide direct patient care under the direction of the Health Care Providers and/or Medical Director, including but not limited to: EKGs, injections/immunizations for children and adults, visual and audio tests, chaperoning during sensitive exams, assisting provider during minor procedures, fill in for front desk as needed and more
- Appropriately chart all necessary patient information in the EMR
- Identify critically ill patients that need immediate attention and inform a provider
- Assist providers with patient follow-up and other necessary tasks in the best interest of the patient
- Keep all exam rooms stocked and clean
- Ability to use all aspects of Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR)
- Have a full working knowledge and understanding of the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program
- Deal with all paperwork in appropriate fashion (scanning, filing, faxing, etc.)
- Proper use of all lab equipment and lab tests
- Obtain all patient communication and direct to appropriate parties according to timelines set by clinic protocol
- Prepare and administer vaccines correctly based on the vaccine's indications.
- Performs all other duties as assigned
- Responsible to the Family Health Center Office Manager, Lead Medical Assistant, and Medical Director
Qualifications - Education: High School Diploma
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year working in a medical office providing direct care to pediatric patients OR have up to date Medical Assistant Certification
- Excellent patient relations skills including strong verbal and written communication
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Compassionate and able to work with clients from various backgrounds
- Medical knowledge to understand medical procedures and medical language
- Ability to multitask and work well in a team
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Fluent in English, bilingual in Spanish (preferred)
- Must act in an ethical manner, in compliance with all CCIECC policies and relevant laws
- Must be proficient in obtaining newborn, infant, and toddler's vital signs
- Required Licenses, Certifications, and Training : Up to date Medical Assistant Certification preferred

Work Environment & Physical Demands - This position is on-site and may not be eligible for remote work
- Ability to work a flexible schedule between 7:45 am and 5:30 pm. (40 hours/week)
- Attendance at occasional meetings, events, or trainings is required
- The role involves working with sensitive or potentially traumatic information and direct interaction with individuals or families in crisis
- Physical requirements include frequent use of hands for handling objects, tools, or controls; talking, bending, squatting, twisting, climbing, kneeling, reaching, and occasionally lifting or carrying up to 30 pounds
- Vision requirements include close-up work, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus
- The work environment may involve varying degrees of physical discomfort and occasional loud noise, including crying/yelling children
- Reliable transportation is required
