Job Title: Aerospace Manufacturing Engineer Job Summary: The Aerospace Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes for aerospace products and components. This role involves working closely with design engineers, production teams, and quality control to ensure the efficient production of high-quality aerospace parts. The Manufacturing Engineer focuses on improving manufacturing methods, reducing costs, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and maintaining product quality.
Key Responsibilities: Process Development and Improvement: Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for the production of aerospace components.
Implement lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement strategies to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Collaborate with design engineers to ensure that new products are designed with manufacturability in mind.
Conduct design reviews and provide feedback to improve production efficiency and product quality.
Production Support: Provide technical support to the production team to resolve manufacturing issues and ensure smooth operations.
Develop and maintain detailed work instructions, process documentation, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Quality Assurance: Ensure that manufacturing processes comply with industry standards, regulations, and quality requirements (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001).
Implement and maintain quality control systems to monitor and improve product quality.
Tooling and Equipment: Design and develop jigs, fixtures, and tooling to support efficient manufacturing processes.
Evaluate and recommend new equipment and technologies to enhance manufacturing capabilities.
Cost Reduction: Identify opportunities to reduce manufacturing costs through process improvements, material substitutions, and waste reduction.
Conduct cost-benefit analyses for proposed changes and implement approved cost-saving measures.
Project Management: Lead and manage manufacturing projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including design, production, quality, and supply chain, to achieve project goals.
Compliance and Safety: Ensure that all manufacturing processes comply with safety regulations and best practices.
Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures to protect workers and equipment.
Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect and analyze data on manufacturing performance, including cycle times, scrap rates, and production efficiency.
Prepare reports and present findings to management, providing recommendations for improvements.
Required Skills:
Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and technologies used in aerospace production.
Proficiency in CAD software and manufacturing simulation tools.
Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues effectively.
Communication and Collaboration: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Project Management: Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Lean Manufacturing: Experience with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
Knowledge of Six Sigma principles is a plus.
Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work.
Ability to maintain thorough and precise documentation.
Qualifications:
Education: A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field is typically required.
A master's degree is advantageous.
Experience: Several years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably within the aerospace industry.
Proven track record of developing and optimizing manufacturing processes for aerospace components.
Certifications: Relevant certifications, such as Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt, Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE), or Lean Manufacturing certification, are advantageous.
