KHS reasonably expects to pay starting compensation for the position of Health Education Intern - Public Health PT at the rate of $19.00 hourly.

Definition Under the direction of the Kern Health Systems (KHS) Director of Health Education, Cultural & Linguistic Services, the Health Education INTERN will assist KHS in planning and implementing health education and preventive health projects that benefit KHS members while supporting the KHS Health Education Department with projects related to pregnancy, asthma, nutrition, school wellness, tobacco, or other topics as assigned.
Essential Functions - Work with the Health Education Department leadership to develop a work plan with SMART objectives that tracks students' progress during the internship.
- Shadow the Health Education Department team leads to become familiar with their roles and responsibilities.
- Read and become familiar with KHS' relevant workplace policies.
- Assist with planning, testing, developing, implementing, and/or evaluating a member health education tools, programs or services.
- Assist with gathering information from trusted or credible sources for project planning and decision making.
- Participate in trainings on how to check the readability of written health education materials and develop written materials that are easy to read and understand.
- Assist with the development of health education messages, content, or campaigns for social media.
- Assist with preparing for and facilitating community health education classes and individual member sessions, in-person and/or virtually.
- Perform data entry, analysis and summarize findings from member health and demographic data.
- Perform outreach calls and surveys among KHS members.
- Assist with the development of health education messages, content, or campaigns for social media.
- Attend community events with the Health Education Department.
- Attend onsite and offsite meetings as needed with the Health Education Department leadership. Prepare and present a final presentation on the internship project and experience.
- Report weekly hours worked and mileage.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Intern Employment Standards - Must be 18 years or older.
- Must have a high school diploma, GED or recent college degree.
- Must be enrolled or a recent graduate from an accredited college or university and pursuing a field of study related to public health, community health, or other health related field. Must provide proof of current college enrollment during each semester or recent college degree.
- Must have good communication and written skills.
- Must be very organized and have strong time-management skills.
- Candidates who are fluent in English and Spanish are preferred.
- Must be willing to complete a background check, DMV check, and a health clearance.
- Must have a GPA of 2.0 or greater and provide proof of current GPA.
- Must have a reliable form of transportation and a valid California driver's license. If driving your own vehicle, must provide proof of auto insurance. Travel: Up to 40%. Mileage reimbursed at current IRS rate
