Headquartered in Paterson, NJ, Straight and Narrow is the largest program of its kind. We provide innovative and compassionate services to individuals struggling with substance use and co-occurring disorders. We are looking for dedicated, caring and compassionate people to work in our Residential/Outpatient Treatment Facilities and Community Programs.

Counselor Intern

Schedule per week: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (9:00am-5:00pm)

Location: Paterson NJ

Job Summary:

The Primary Substance Abuse Counselor functions as an integral part of the treatment team and provides individuals, groups, and case management services to clients on his/her caseload while ensuring that the requirements of all regulating bodies are met.

Responsibilities:

1. Provide individuals, groups, and treatment planning and case management as required per licensing standards (residential or ambulatory according to program) for a caseload of clients
2. Formulate measurable individualized Treatment Plans and Treatment Plan Reviews for each client on caseload
3. Maintain clinical portion of clients' charts as per Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) -HOPWA and CARF guidelines, ensuring that all documentation is up-to-date as per Straight & Narrow's Policy on Timeframe for Documentation in Clients' Charts
4. Attend individual and group supervision with Clinical Supervisor as scheduled
5. Provide clients on caseload with referral to other agencies (i.e., health, psychiatric, vocational rehabilitation and public assistance) for concurrent and/or continued care as part of case management as necessary
6. Provide crisis intervention to clients as necessary.
7. Submit documentation to Supervisor daily for any/all sessions held with clients on that day
8. Attend and actively participate in all Ryan White planning council meetings when held
9. If CADC or LCADC has not been obtained, present supervisor with documented progress toward this certification quarterly. Must complete CADC/LCADC within three (3) years from date of hire.
10. Encourage and support clients' participation in AA/NA/GA
11. Follow all E-Compas Health Records policies.

Unit-specific duties for this position (if any):

1. Conduct intakes and fully orient new clients to the program
2. Monitor urine specimens, as required

Qualifications:

CADC or LCADC. If counselor does not have either a CADC or LCADC, must be actively pursuing one or the other and must have a AS or BA degree. Must complete CADC or LCADC within three (3) years from date of hire. Must possess the ability to type and be computer literate.
