Full Salary Ranges: $76,700 - $103,600 Salary

Anticipated Hiring Ranges: $76,700 - $90,150 Salary

Job Summary:

The Cemetery Manager manages and directs all phases of cemetery operations to include, but not
limited to, sales, marketing, budget development, budget monitoring, grounds / building / equipment
maintenance, family care, short- and long-term cemetery development, and daily operations.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent certification through a program of comparable
    length.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience and ability to use specialized equipment pertinent to cemetery operations including,
    but not limited to backhoes, dump equipment, interment devices, and grounds management
    equipment including sprayers, mowers, etc.

OR

  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a
    candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Preferred

  • None.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Intermediate level experience using Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel,
    PowerPoint) and ability to use spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to solve a variety of problems in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities with inflexible deadlines.
  • Ability to handle adverse or difficult interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work extended hours evenings, holidays, or weekends.
  • Knowledge in the specialized field of cemetery death care operations including, but not limited to,
    knowledge of turf management, sales, marketing, pre-need / at-need / aftercare death care,
    personnel management, and project management.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops, executes, directs, and supervises all cemetery operations.
  • Executes all phases of pre-need, at-need, and aftercare family death needs.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors the budget.
  • Develops, manages, and direct operations, procedures, and long / short term grounds
    development and renovations.
  • Develops, coordinates, and executes public programs which promote the cemetery within the
    community.
  • Develops, coordinates, and analyzes marketing and sales procedures.
  • Assists with burial operations as well as grounds maintenance to meet the goals of the
    organization. Assistance includes, but is not limited to; grave excavation, mowing, weed
    abatement, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Hiring, training, motivating and coaching employees.
  • Evaluate employee performance and goal setting.
  • Hold employees accountable for assigned tasks and goals.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback and training opportunities.
  • Provide training opportunities with a focus on employee development.
  • Resolve conflicts and complaints.
  • Analyzing information and processes and developing more effective or efficient processes.
  • Establishing and achieving business and financial objectives.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Work Environment

  • Subject to driving City vehicles in all weather conditions.
  • May be required to drive personal vehicle for business purposes.
  • Subject to working alone, with groups, and/or attending meetings.
  • May be required to conduct business in alternate locations within City buildings or field sites,
    sometimes in formal settings.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Frequent contact with the public in person, via e-mail, and via telephone.
  • Exposure to hazards associated with moving parts, heavy machinery, trenching, or electricity.
  • May wear protective clothing or gear such as goggles, gloves, masks, and/or ear protection.

Physical Requirements

  • Communication skills enough to hear and convey information to/from the public via telephone and
    in person.
  • Moderate physical exertion that includes stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling.
  • Frequent standing or walking.
  • Frequently lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds.
  • Moderate muscular exertion and/or physical strain such as frequently climbing tall ladders, or
    lifting / moving items weighing up to 75 pounds (e.g., assisting pall bearers).
  • Maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks and frequently working with
    light objects and light hand tools.
  • Extensive work is performed on a computer with repetitive data entry.
  • Work is primarily performed at a desk.

Travel

  • Approximately 10% flexible, local travel required.
